With winter looming, I looked forward to spending some time on the land and with family.

My time was filled with visits to Manigotagan, Hollow Water, Pine Falls, and the outskirts of Winnipeg, as well as family gatherings and birthdays.  Accompanied by my wife and dog, we drove, walked, built fires, smudged, and reflected.

Much time was spent with the Elders of the family, spending every precious moment possible soaking up their love and wisdom.  It is not lost on us what they sacrificed for our family, and we do our best to honour that.

When we return home, our two cats greet us with love and affection which quickly turns into hostility for leaving and not immediately feeding them upon our return.  Ah to love a cat.

The conclusion of my ‘Land-Based Wellness Weeks’ is bittersweet.  While it was both calming and rejuvenating, it also reminds me that not enough time is spent on day-to-day wellness.  I need to be better at actively prioritizing my wellness.  These weeks helped remind me what I need to feed my soul, and I plan on continuing to look for opportunities to step outside of the chaos and take a breath.
