My 2 Weeks On the Land – A Photo Essay:

I am fortunate that I live in an environment in the midst of agriculture and some Crown land.  I am also very close to some parks, pastures and conservation areas that I visit whenever I can.  I’ve always chosen to prioritize work and play outside whenever possible.  I grew up close to the land and I have had an affinity for water and boats my whole life.  I’ve always understood that I depend on the connection I have with my environment.  It fills my senses, provides me quiet calm, brings me together with other people and bonds my family in happy memories.

For my Land Based 2 weeks Wellness Period,  I spent every bit of it outside.  I based our family at our seasonal campsite on Lake Manitoba where we were fortunate enough to have family and friends who we hadn’t seen in some time come and camp with us.  From there I went hiking in riding mountain, surveying land around the corner of the old postage stamp boundary of Manitoba, took my family to Wasagaming and capped it off with a few days of chasing Elk in the Turtle Mountains!

It was pretty busy!  Even so along the way I got to know a juvenile Bald Eagle whose favorite perch was 90 meters from my morning coffee chair by the fire.  He sat there so regularly that we actually named him Beasley.  Not quite certain why – but my wife and I somehow agreed it suited him.  I think it may have had something to do with his voice.  He liked to be very vocal and seemed opinionated – just like my 16 year old!

When deciding how best to document my 2 weeks off I decided to shoot stills.  I have a nice Sony mirrorless to use as well as my iPhone.  I also have some new software that I am learning to help me organize my work and home photos – and maybe get a little better at photography along the way.  It has taken me some time to produce this blog as I have also taken the opportunity to use this project to do a deep dive on the Adobe Creative suite.  I have almost no experience with this software beyond the very basics and I am convinced that as much photography as I do for FNT2T learning to use it is a good investment of my time.

I hope you enjoy my little photo essay!  To check ‘em out go to: https://shawnegrk.myportfolio.com/

I hope some of the images are good enough to bring back a sensation or remind you of a specific place and time outdoors somewhere in our beautiful territory!
