Treaty 2 Territory – The grade 9 summer work students, most of which are Summer Games athletes might I add, were hard at work cutting grass, weed whacking, and raking when I had arrived for the Summer Games Circle meeting.  It was amazing to see the students getting their grounds ready for the games in 30+ weather, it shows their dedication to the games and the pride in their community.

Led by Summer Games Circle Chair, Tyrone Desjarlais the grade 9 students were let go around 2:00 pm to head home after a hard days work.  The grounds were in much better shape than they were last meeting, when the grounds were covered in 70% water.  Tyrone has local groundskeepers ready to assist with cutting the tall grass, deliver gravel, and grade the roads in time for the games.  It was amazing to see all the community action going on!

I presented the medals and trophies to the Summer Games Circle, and they are stunning!  We have medals for all sports, and trophies for exceptional individuals in some sports.  We feel it is important to have a compete level to help the up and coming athletes reach their peak potential in the near future.

I want to commend Kakakwekejeong for all their hard work and dedication they have displayed during the planning of the games, I can’t wait until August 9 and 10.  It is going to be a great time!

The Summer Games Circle made it no cost for all spectators to view the games, however, camping is ONLY available to family of the athletes.  There is also a curfew for the Island which is 10:00 pm in which no one can leave or enter.  The Summer Games Circle wanted me to point out that EVERYONE is welcome to view the games and the competitions!

I want to remind nation reps that registration sheets are due FRIDAY JULY 15, 2022 @ 4:00 pm.  Please send them to summergames22@fnt2t.com

Miigwech, and we hope to see you out for the games!
