Gaagwekwekejiong First Nation Leadership meets with FNT2T Government Staff

Treaty 2 Territory – February 22, 2021, Ebb and Flow First Nation Leadership gathered today with the First Nations Treaty 2 Territory Government staff. Discussion were shared on Governance, Canada Political Table, Circles, and Law Development. Chief Wayne Desjarlais shared the importance of doing the work in the Nations, and not to go based on Canada and its policies. Lead Keeper Boh Kubrakovich shared updates on the Councils, Policy Keeper Karen Kejick provided updates on the Canada Political Table and Policy oversight to the Circles, and Ray Mousseau shared updates on the development of the Circles and the First Law Drafts. Ron Missyabit, CPNW Keeper, provide updates on the CPNW Circle and Council and was invited back to Ebb and Flow to discuss water management with the local water treatment operators.

Discussion and updates from the FNT2T Government will be provided to Leadership of the Nations on an ongoing basis. One of the importance of our work is our Inherent Rights as Anishinaabe People. Miigwech to Councillor Darren Mousseau for reminding us and acknowledging the inherent rights we have as Anishinaabe People and miigwech to Councillor Margaret Racette for acknowledging the work we do as a Government, and for the acknowledgement of bringing balance with our Ikwe and Inini of our Nations. Ray Mousseau, Governance Keeper, presented Leadership with asemaa (tobacco) to host the 2021 Treaty 2 Territory Gathering. This year marks 150 years since the Crown signed the Treaty in 1871. Ebb and Flow located 20 kms Northwest of Manitoba House. Miigwech to Chief and Council for accepting the asemaa offering. Updates will be provided at a later date.

Following the updates from the FNT2T Government Staff, Ebb and Flow Leadership were presented with Treaty 2 Territory Medallions and the Treaty 2 Territory Map Sign. The sign will be posted outside the administration office in Gaagwekwekejeiong. Miigwech to Leadership for the opportunity to have the FNT2T Government Staff present updates. Giche Miigwech!
